This workshop provides an in-depth look at the characteristics, backgrounds, and mindsets shared by successful small business owners. By exploring these traits, you’ll gain a clearer understanding of whether entrepreneurship is the right path for you. We’ll guide you through a practical self-assessment to help you evaluate your current skills, identify strengths, and uncover areas that may need development to improve your chances of long-term success. Throughout the session, we will cover essential topics such as: • What entrepreneurship really is and how it differs from simply owning a business. • The entrepreneurial process, from idea to launch and beyond. • Who can become an entrepreneur and whether age, gender, or background play a role. • The value of education, including whether a business degree is necessary for success. • Different paths to business ownership, such as starting from scratch, franchising, or buying an existing business. Our Presenter, Hugh McLean After earning his Master’s degree in Business Administration, his carrier spanned several different fields: Manufacturing, Materials Management in the food production and distribution industry; Executive Search and Placement in both Manufacturing as well as the Legal profession. He has managed a residential plumbing company as well as a Bankruptcy Law firm as the Business Manager for each entity. The latter part of his career was spent in Sales and Marketing with a product emphasis of Payroll, Workman’s Comp and Health Insurance. Hugh as owned 3 business, 2 of which he sold successfully and is currently operating a third. For the Last 8+ years he has been a SCORE Certified Counselor working mainly in Nassau County as well as a Workshop presenter.
